What to expect

As a humanistic therapist, my work centres on building a warm, trusting relationship with you in which I will be authentic and honest and in which you can feel safe and connected.  The content of our work is fully confidential.

I usually suggest a short phone coversation before we meet for the first time, so you can get a feel for whether I might be the right therapist for you. The first session will be an opportunity for you to talk about what's going on for you, and for you to get a feel for how I work. We can agree what it is you want to get out of therapy and talk through practicalities.  We can put dates in the diary going ahead. I have a contract and we can talk that through and sign copies.

Generally, sessions will focus on conversation. I will support you to get clarity on your particular difficulties or issues and a sense of what it is you want for yourself. We will work to understand how you function and I will help you gain insight and perspective. We will look at both your current situation and influences from your history. I will work with how your physiological responses link with your emotional reactions and experiences. I may suggest more practical exercises and homework tasks.

We can review from time to time what you're getting from working with me, and we can form an ending when you feel satisfied or decide that you want to move on.
